AI Policy
The short version
I use AI as a tool, the way I use a spellchecker or a spreadsheet. It does not decide where I go, what a place costs, or what I think of it. Every guide describes somewhere I have actually been, and every price is one I have checked.
Why this page exists
Plenty of travel content is now generated wholesale by AI, written about places nobody visited, with prices nobody verified. That is the thing this site is trying not to be. So rather than claim no AI is involved anywhere, here is exactly where it is and where it is not.
Where AI is used
- Key takeaways. The summary box near the top of each guide is generated automatically from the article text by a plugin, WPSummarize, which sends the article to an AI model to produce it. It summarises what I wrote; it does not add anything new.
- Editing and structure. I use AI assistants to tidy drafts, catch clumsy sentences, check consistency across guides, and to help build and maintain the site itself.
- Research support. AI helps me gather and cross-check published figures, such as typical accommodation or transport costs, which I then compare against what I actually paid.
Where AI is not used
- Deciding what is true. Facts about a place, what something costs, and whether somewhere is worth your time come from being there and from named sources.
- Writing a guide to somewhere I have not been. If there is no guide for a region, that is because I have not been, and the site says so rather than filling the gap.
- Opinions and recommendations. If a guide says a place is worth the detour or not worth the money, that is my view.
- Photographs. No AI-generated images. Where a photograph is not mine it is credited.
Accuracy is still on me
AI gets things wrong confidently, which is the whole problem with it. Anything it helps produce here is checked before it goes up, and mistakes that slip through are mine rather than the tool's. If you find one, tell me and I will fix it and note the change.
Your data
The AI tools involved in writing and summarising work on article text, not on reader data. Comments and contact form messages are not fed into them. What happens to data collected by the site generally is covered in the Privacy Policy.
Changes
If how I use AI changes, this page changes with it, and the Last updated date at the top will show when.
